the space in between (two columns)
In my work,
I translate across cultural borders,
using language (Japanese-German-English)
and the visual means of photography.
In short, I consider myself a verbal and visual translator of cultures and spaces.
The Japanese concept of 間 (ま, ma) – the intentionally designed space in between – plays a key role in my perception.
I make this "space in‑between" visible with light and shadow,
layering spaces so that their essence is gradually revealed,
step by step, as the eye moves deeper into the image.
